Siberian Husky

The Siberian Husky is believed to have originated among the Chukchi, a tribe of Siberian nomads. Its breed’s history is relatively unknown but DNA tests show and have confirmed that they are amongst the oldest dog breeds. Its has been known that the Chukchi uses dogs as fast transportation and that they interacted with the Chukchi as a family dog. Huskies often slept with the children and provided warm comfortable beds for them.

The Siberian Huskies were imported to Alaska in 1908 and were used as sled dogs during the gold rush. They were used in the All-Alaska Sweepstakes, which is a 408-mile dogsled race.

Records indicated that the last Siberian Husky was exported from Siberia in 1930 when the borders were closed by the Soviet government. The breed continued to thrive in North America. Although they have changed slightly from their Siberian foundation dogs, the Chukchi Sled Dog, they still maintain many of the wonderful qualities of that breed.

The Siberian Club of America was founded in 1938 and the Siberian Husky was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1930 and the Canadian Kennel Club in 1939.

Size

On average, males stand between 21 and 23.5 inches high while female averages 20 to 22 inches. And the average weight for males is between 45 and 60 pounds and for females 35 to 50 pounds.

Personality

Siberian Huskies are pack dogs, and they long to have an owner who is the clear leader of the pack.

Siberian Huskies pack dogs

When this happens, it’s important not to give in to their pushiness. Assert yourself as a leader, however not by bullying, or, hitting but rather by confirming the ground rules with clarity and consistency.

Making your dog wait to eat is one of the best ways to impose your authority as the leader. The Husky will view you as the keeper of all valuable resources of their food, treats, toys, and other needs.

This high-energy breed can be destructive both indoors and out — especially when bored or not given adequate exercise.

It is ideal for everyone if you will teach your dog to dig in one spot only instead of trying to break him off that habit.

Nonetheless, they can be quite charming with their mischievous and playful nature. They are also quite social and love to show off their talents.

Siberian Huskies do not bark and that’s the good news. However, here’s the bad side: they do enjoy howling, which can be very frustrating for your neighbors. Unless you have a properly trained and well-exercised Siberian Husky, they do not make ideal pets for apartments.

Additional Info on Siberian Husky Personality

Although Huskies are adored for being friendly and gentle, they make lousy watchdogs. Unfortunately, they are not overly suspicious of strangers, including burglars. The fact is that they tend to love everybody.

Their temperament doesn’t occur in a vacuum. It’s affected by several factors, including heredity, training, and socialization. Puppies with nice temperaments are curious and playful, willing to approach people and be held by them. Choose the middle-of-the-road puppy, not the one who’s beating up his littermates or the one who’s hiding in the corner.

It is advisable, to meet at least one of the parents, usually, the mother is the one who is available to have an idea that they have nice temperaments that you will be comfortable with. Meeting siblings or other relatives of the parents is also helpful for evaluating what a puppy will be like when he grows up.

Like every dog, Siberian Huskies need early exposure to many different people, sights, sounds, and experiences when they’re young. Socialization helps ensure that your Siberian puppy grows up to be a well-rounded dog.

More info

Enrolling him in a puppy kindergarten class is a great start. Inviting visitors over regularly, and taking him to busy parks, stores that allow dogs, and on leisurely strolls to meet neighbors will also help him polish his social skills.

Siberian Huskies are generally healthy, but like all breeds
  • Siberian Huskies are generally healthy, but like all breeds, they’re prone to certain health conditions. Not all Huskies will get any or all of these diseases. But it’s important to be aware of them if you’re considering this breed. In Huskies, you should expect to see health clearances from the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) for hip dysplasia (with a score of fair or better), elbow dysplasia, hypothyroidism, and von Willebrand’s disease; from Auburn University for thrombophilia; and from the Canine Eye Registry Foundation (CERF) certifying that eyes are normal.
    • Cataracts: A cataract is an opacity on the lens of the eye that causes difficulty in seeing. The eye(s) of the dog will have a cloudy appearance.
    • Corneal Dystrophy: This condition affects the cornea or outer transparent portion of the eyeball. There is no therapy for this condition, but it does not seem to affect the vision.
    • Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA): This is a degenerative eye disorder that eventually causes blindness from the loss of photoreceptors at the back of the eye. PRA is detectable years before the dog shows any signs of blindness. Fortunately, dogs can use their other senses to compensate for blindness, and a blind dog can live a full and happy life. Regardless of how healthy your dog is when you first bring them home, you should prepare for any issues that may come up throughout their life.

Care

Siberian Huskies need to be exercised for 30 to 60 minutes daily to keep them from becoming bored. Surprisingly, they need only a small (but secure) backyard to expend their energy.

Bottom line: Siberian Huskies need to be working to stay happy. Usually just maintaining your own active life through hiking and other outdoor sports will keep you Siberian Husky healthy, happy and out of trouble.

As mentioned earlier, training is a must with this breed and you may want to invest in more advanced obedience classes. This can be difficult for many owners and trainers as the breed is very intelligent and will determine the difference between classes and home.

additional info

Crate training is an important tool that is often recommended by breeders. It keeps you dog and puppy safe and also gives them their own safe haven to retreat to when they are feeling overwhelmed or tired.

Leash training is also a must as Siberian Huskies should never be left off leash when they are not in a fenced area. They love to run and will do so without any thought of how far away you are. You can easily lose your Siberian Husky if he decides to chase something or simply enjoy a heartfelt run.

Feeding

  • Recommended daily amount: 1.5 to 2 cups of high-quality dry food a day. Divided into two meals. When it comes to mealtimes. Siberian Huskies are known for being “easy keepers” requiring a small amount of food for their size. As the Chukchi’s developed these dogs pulled a light load at a fast pace over great distances in low temperatures on the smallest possible intake of food.
  • However, how much your adult dog eats depends on his size, age, build, metabolism, and activity level. Dogs are individuals, just like people, and they don’t all need the same amount of food. A highly active dog will be needing more than a couch potato dog. The quality of dog food you buy also makes a difference. The better the dog food, the further it will go toward nourishing your dog. And the less of it you’ll need to shake into your dog’s bowl.

Found in the provinces of Apayao, Benguet, Mountain Province, and Ifugao, UNESCO has declared the terraces a World Heritage Site. Ifugao, a landlocked province of the Philippines in the Cordillera Administrative Region in Luzon. Covers a total land area of 251,778 hectares. The province of Ifugao, a mountainous region characterized by rugged terrain, river valleys, and massive forests, has its capital in Lagawe. It borders Benguet to the west, Mountain Province to the north, Isabela to the east, and Nueva Vizcaya to the south.

In addition to that, the Banaue Rice Terraces are a National Cultural Treasure of the Philippines. Moreover, it has been- considered to be the 8th Natural Wonder of the World by many Filipinos.

Although, there have been rice terraces in the mountainous regions of Ifugao and northern Luzon Island for over 2,000 years.

The terraces were first constructed as a practical solution to the problem of growing rice on land. Which falls away in front of you at vertigo-inducing angles.

The terraces soar to around 1500m above sea level. And, since they are located in one of the most remote parts of the Philippines’ main island of Luzon. And it takes a bit of a trek to get there. Moreover, it’s most likely the main reason to deter the usual cavalcade of couch-bound tourists.

Banaue Man-made Beauty

However, a business traveler in search of a little refreshment for the soul may find the effort well worthwhile.

The most popular place to look at the rice terraces is called the Sunrise Viewpoint. Where local Igorot tribespeople poses for photographs and sells wood carvings.

Man-made Beauty Banaue

But it is also possible to set out on foot along the pathways across the rice paddies, their banks scattered with scarlet wild flowers that contrast spectacularly with the vivid green of the rice plantings.

It is best to hire a guide if you want to adventure yourself in the rice terraces as you might get lost otherwise. These mountain hikes can take hours but the views of the terraced valleys are breathtaking and in one or two places there are waterfalls and natural swimming holes where one can ease away the aches and strains of the hike.

The rice terraces here were declared in 2009 free from any genetically modified organisms. Farming in the area is carried out much the same way it was carried out hundreds of years ago.

The Banaue Rice Terraces are just the most notorious terraces in northern Luzon but there are other notable ones that are worth visiting: the Batad Rice Terraces, Mayoyao Rice Terraces in Mayoyao, Hapao Rice Terraces and Kiangan Rice Terraces.

The terraces can be visited any time of the year. But the best time for a visit is between February and March when the cleaning and planting time occurs. And between June and July when the harvest occurs.

At the nearby Batad Rice Terraces, the best time to visit is between April and May and October to November.

Puerto Princesa City is a relatively young settlement. It was established as a city only in 1970. The first settlers arrived here almost a century earlier though, on March 4, 1872, celebrated every year hence as the foundation day of Puerto Princesa.

Its narrowest breath is in Bahile, where only 8.5 kilometers of land separate the east and the west coast.

More info

Majority of which are rural settlements scattered in underdeveloped land. Inhabitants number about 150,000, most of them engaged in agriculture and fishing. A third of the population resides in the city proper, an urbanized settlement on the shores of Puerto Princesa Bay. With its huge trees and fresh air, the city has managed to retain its frontier ambiance despite the onset of modern trends and structures.

Puerto Princesa Philippines climate consists of pronounced wet and dry seasons equally divided throughout the year. The wettest month is September while the driest month is February. From October to April, the northeast monsoon whips up waves on the coast facing the South China Sea. The southwest monsoon blows from April to August.

The best time to visit Puerto Princesa would be the summer months from April to June, when seas are usually calm. Humidity is high but annual average temperatures are comfortable at 27 degrees celsius. Nights may be chilly during rainy days, especially in forested areas, so it is advisable for visitors to bring warm clothing at all times.

Geology of Puerto Princesa

Geology

In the southern portion particularly in the Irawan area, metamorphic rocks of the Inagawan Formation can be found. The area is also partly composed of sedimentary Iwahig Formation, alluvium of unconsolidated gravel, sand, pebbles and silt. Some ultramafic rocks of the Palawan Ophiolite Complex also characterize the area.

The northern part of the City is comprised of ultramafic rocks. In particular, the Langogan area is characterized by metamorphic rocks consisting of quartz-feldspathic and mica schists, phyllites, slate and quartzites. The ultramafic rocks consist of unaltered sepertenized pridotite, dunite and pyrexomite.

Babuyan area is made up of Irahuan Metavolcanics which resemble the quartz-hematite schist in appearance and are also friable and weather into dark reddish gray platy fragments which are usually scattered near outcrops of river beds. St. Paul limestone outcrops as small patches are found in the south and midwestern part of the catchment. It is comprised of a very thick, massive, marbleized limestone with very well developed karst.

More about its geology

The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park has  karsts limestone formation and is popular tourist destination among local and international tourists. The underground river is about 8.2 kilometers in length and has been proclaimed under Proclamation No. 212 as a National Park. The park covers a protected area of 22,202 hectares.  It is also included in the list of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO because of its diverse ecosystem and the presence of rare flora and fauna. The site, which is located in Sabang, barangay Cabayugan has also fine white beaches.

Puerto Princesa Underground River/Underground Cave

The underground caves stretch for more than 24km and they contain the last 9km of the Cabayugan River before it spills out into the Philippine Sea. The caves are a breathtaking combination of stalactites, stalagmites, caverns, waterfalls, domes and rivers.

Puerto Princesa Underground River is one of the longest underground rivers in the world. Board a boat at the mouth of the cave at Sabang Wharf, and stop at the Buenavista viewpoint for views of Ulugan Bay.

History of Puerto Princesa

Legend attributes the name “Puerto Princesa” to a princess-like maiden who in the early days is said to have roamed around the place on certain nights of the year. On the other hand, practical people attribute the name to the geographical advantages of the place as a seaport – naturally protected the whole year round and endowed with a depth that can accommodate any size of shipping – a royal heaven for vessels or a virtual princess of ports as thus indicated by Spanish Colonizers on the country’s map.

Historically, the place was named after Princess Asunción, born in 1864 to Queen Isabella II and her consort, Francisco de Cádiz. When the princess suffered an untimely death, the Queen changed the name to Puerto de la Princesa. Eventually, the name was reduced to Puerto Princesa as it is known today.

Spanish Colonizers founded the settlement on 4 March 1872 in the course of their exploration of the province. As they scanned the Palawan shoreline for a capital site, they came upon a hill with steep declivity. Rowing to shore, they surveyed the hill and discovered an extensive plateau which they decided as ideal for settlement.

Captivating view of Puerto Princesa

In continuation

In May 1872, the Port of Puerto Princesa became the center of Spanish Naval Operations in the area. Because the Bay met all the Navy’s requirements. Royal Decrees later provided incentives to settlers, and by 1883 the settlement had flourished into a town of twelve roads, a hospital and well-built port.

Puerto Princesa was recognized in 1894 by government authorities as one of the most beautiful towns in the country. And by virtue of the orderly distribution of streets, buildings and houses as well as the cleanliness of the community.

And in 1911, the New American Administration made Puerto Princesa the seat of the Palawan Provincial Government with Major John Brown as Lieutenant Governor.

In 1956, the sitios of Calagbenguen, Tarabanan, Bendoyan, Talabigan, Tagbuan, and Langogan were constituted into the barrio of Concepcion.

Puerto Princesa- Palawan

The town was converted into a city on 1 January 1970 under R.A. 5906 as amended by P.D. 437, through the effort of then Congressman Ramon V. Mitra, Jr. Feliberto R. Oliveros, Jr. became the first City Mayor.

Since its foundation, Puerto Princesa has been the nerve center of activities in Palawan. Aside from being the seat of public administration, it is the heart of trade, commerce, service, and industry in the province.

Today, the City has gained the distinction of being a model city – in cleanliness, environmental protection and conservation, and local governance in general.

And so, with a responsive leadership and an inspired citizenry. The tradition of Puerto Princesa being a beautiful and clean city lives on.

The Final Season premiered on December 7, 2020. But on hiatus and resumed on January 10, 2022. Before the end of said hiatus, NHK General TV aired a special series recapping all the episodes up until that point called Attack on Titan: Special Omnibus.

Synopsis of attack on titan

Eren fighting as a Titan

Attack on Titan is set in a world where humanity lives inside cities and is surrounded by enormous walls that protect them from Titans. Gigantic humanoid creatures devour humans seemingly without reason. The story centers around Eren Jaeger and his childhood friends Mikasa Ackermann and Armin Arlelt, whose lives were changed because of the appearance of the colossal titan. Which brings about the destruction of their hometown and the death of Eren’s mother. Vowing to avenge the death of his mother and to reclaim the world from the Titans. Eren, Mikasa, and Armin join the Scout Regiment, an elite group of soldiers who fight Titans outside the Walls.

Theme-wise. While “normal” Titans are grotesque, they look like stereotypical modern-day Earth humans: overweight, mindless consumers with no real purpose. The survivors die in droves, other than the heroes (and a lot of them too) breakdown in the face of the horror, and go mad or turn on each other.

Theme of attack on titan

Eren became a Titan

A recurring theme in Attack on Titan is the need to never give up and keep fighting in the face of adversity. If you don’t fight, you can’t win. Most characters have something that is currently out of their reach:

Eren and Armin want to be free from the walls, but can’t because of the Titans. Mikasa wants a peaceful life, but can’t be happy unless Eren is safe. Levi and Erwin want a better tomorrow for humanity, but conspiracy factions are holding humanity back. Annie, Reiner and Bertolt want to return home to their village, but can’t until they complete their mission. In the past, Hange wanted to learn more about the Titans, but the military refused to support Titan research. Historia wants to live for herself, but other people keep controlling her destiny.

Each character has something they want, but they can never reach their goals if they sit down and do nothing. Humanity as a whole represents complacency. After 100 years, they are no closer to defeating the Titans because the powers within the walls no longer have any interest in doing so. The common people have largely dismissed the existence of Titans prior to Wall Maria’s breaching. Humanity cannot win against the Titans because they no longer wish to fight.

The main characters fight, and struggle, and some are even willing to offer their lives while pursuing change. Though the odds seem hopeless, nothing will ever happen unless you are willing to risk sacrificing something.
