Kimi no Na wa

Kimi no Na wa is a 2016 Japanese anime romantic fantasy drama film directed, written, and edited by Makoto Shinkai based on his own novel of the same name.

Your Name was animated by CoMix Wave Films and distributed by Toho. The film premiered at the Anime Expo 2016 convention in Los Angeles, California on July 3, 2016, and premiered in Japan on August 26, 2016.

What Does Your Name mean?

I believe it is quite simple to become entangled in the narrative logic of Your Name. Obviously, you want to examine every story development and plot hole to determine whether the story’s foundation is solid. If a moment deviates from the film’s logical structure? It activates something in the brain. You begin to concentrate on plot elements, such as how the Red String of Fate operates, how Mitsuha’s and Taki’s realities could possibly intersect when they live three years apart, and how drinking kuchikamizake unites the two adolescents.

In essence, it is possible to become so enthralled with what all of those parts indicate on a rational level that we overlook the emotional core. While other Internet users have sought to explain the story’s coherence, I believe it’s vital to also incorporate the human elements. What does this film reveal about you and me? Regarding the sensation of falling in love?

Mitsuha Miyamizu is a high school student who lives in the countryside, but she has a desire of living the life of a male in the crowded city of Tokyo. This fantasy stands in stark contrast to the way she actually spends her time right now. In the meantime, in the city, Taki Tachibana is maintaining a hectic schedule as a high school student while also working a part-time job and aspiring to have a career in architecture.

One day, Mitsuha wakes up in a room that is not her own, and all of a sudden, she realizes that she is living the life of her dreams in Tokyo—but in Taki’s body! They start looking for one another as a means of obtaining an explanation for the peculiar event that has been affecting them.

Mitsuha Miyamizu

Mitsuha is the daughter of the mayor of a mountain community that is relatively small. She is a straightforward high school student who lives with her sister and her grandmother. Taki is a young man in Tokyo who attends high school, works part-time in an Italian restaurant, and has aspirations of becoming either an architect or an artist.

A synopsis of the plot of Your Name

The structure of Your Name contributes to people’s confusion about it. Due to the fact that Mitsuha appears three years after Taki and the film randomly bounces between these time periods, the plot is not linear. Frequently, it can feel as if Your Name leaves out information on purpose to stymie you.

A comet breaks apart into several pieces as it travels through space. The vast majority of them are not going to collide with the planet, but one of them has broken off and is heading in the direction of the town of Itomori. Every single one of them will succumb to their defeat in a short amount of time. Everyone will have left, including the parents, the children, the teachers, the politicians, and the merchants.

That would include Mitsuha Miyamizu as well.

The first comet impact occurs

A comet impacted Earth thousands of years ago and formed the lake upon which Itomori currently rests.

The mother of Mitsuha passes away.

After the death of Mitsuha and Yotsuha’s mother, their father withdraws from them and becomes involved in politics. Their grandmother assumes parental duties.

Mitsuha performs the Kuchikamizake ceremony.

Mitsuha and Yotsuha perform a rite and present kuchikamizake to their god at a shrine. She desires to be an attractive Tokyo boy.

Mitsuha’s Body Transformation

Mitsuha awakens inexplicably as Taki, who resides three years in the future. This changeover is repeated at random intervals for several weeks.

Mitsuha Finds Taki

In Tokyo, Mitsuha tracks down Taki. She manages to throw her red yarn bracelet to him prior to being shoved out of the train.

Again, the Comet Strikes

Itomori is struck by a passing comet fragment. Taki observes Mitsuha’s defeat from a distance.

Taki’s Body Change

In an alternate timeline, Taki awakens in Mitsuha’s body three years prior to her demise.

Taki Finds Out About Itomori

Taki chooses to go in search of Mitsuha. He discovers that she is from the city of Itomori, which was destroyed by a comet three years prior.

Taki Pays a Visit to a Shrine

Taki visits the shrine he visited while inhabiting Mitsuha’s body. He sips the kuchikamizake. He then returns to the past and awakens in Mitsuha’s body on the day the comet is scheduled to strike Itomori.

Taki Tries to Save Mitsuha

Taki recruits Mitsuha’s pals in order to evacuate everyone from Itomori before the comet strikes.

Taki and Mitsuha Meet

Taki and Mitsuha return to their bodies and meet at the shrine during “tasogare-doki,” a time of day when boundaries between realms blur. Taki returns Mitsuha’s crimson yarn bracelet, thereby dissolving their bond.

Mitsuha Rescues Itomori

Mitsuha returns to Itomori and saves nearly everyone.

Taki and Mitsuha Forget

Since Mitsuha never died, she and Taki exist in the present day. However, because Taki returned Mitsuha’s red yarn, they no longer remember one other.

Time Passes

Taki and Mitsuha cannot shake the notion that something (or someone) is missing from their life as time passes.

Taki and Mitsuha Find Individual

The train passes past Taki and Mitsuha together. They have an affinity for one another and pursue one another. Each asks the other’s name when they finally meet.
